WEINERT Industries is a German-based, majority family-owned business founded on decades of expertise in fiber optics and photonics. We trace our origins to the early 1990s, when our technologies were part of LEONI’s fiber optic production in Roth, Germany. Over the years, additional capabilities joined our portfolio – from the founding of FO Systems by Andreas Weinert in 2001 to strategic acquisitions like Fibertech in Berlin (2007) and j-Plasma in Jena (2010). In 2021, WEINERT Industries emerged via a management buy-out, reuniting these photonics units into an independent, sustainably oriented family enterprise. Today, WEINERT Industries AG stands as a leading provider of fiber optic materials, cables, and integrated solutions, with a mission to actively shape the photonic revolution of the 21st century.

From our headquarters in Föritztal, Germany, WEINERT Industries has expanded its footprint across Europe, the Americas, Africa, and Asia. The WEINERT group encompasses multiple specialized divisions and subsidiaries that together cover the full value chain of fiber optics. Our corporate structure includes dedicated divisions for Photonic Raw Materials, Tailor-Made Photonics, Infrastructure, and Medical Devices – each with focused expertise under one global umbrella. We operate production and R&D facilities in Germany (including Neuhaus-Schierschnitz, Berlin, Jena, Roth, Sonneberg), a major presence in the United States (Williamsburg, VA), and growing operations in Asia (such as our Changshu facility in China)and Africa (with fiber and cable manufacturing in Brits, South Africa). This global network enables us to serve over 100 active customers in more than 50 countries, delivering consistent quality and support wherever they are. Led by founder Andreas Weinert (Chairman & CTO) and a seasoned management team, WEINERT Industries combines a proud heritage with agile, independent governance. Andreas Weinert founds FO Systems GmbH, marking the entrepreneurial beginnings of our photonics business.
Integration into LEONI AG with acquisitions (Fibertech GmbH, j-Plasma GmbH, Romack Fiber Optics Inc. in the USA) building a comprehensive fiber optics portfolio.
Management buy-out led by Andreas Weinert establishes WEINERT Industries AG as an independent entity, acquiring LEONI’s Fiber Optics units (preforms, specialty fibers, fiber optic cables, optical components).
Expansion into Asia – establishment of
WEINERT Optic Electric Technology (Jiangsu) Co., Ltd. in Changshu, China, through acquisition of BizLink’s specialty fiber optic assembly assets.
Growth in Africa – acquisition of the fiber optic and communication copper cable business of South Africa’s CBI Electric Telecom Cables, leading to the formation of WEINERT Industries South Africa (Pty) Ltd with two divisions (WEINERT Special Cables and WEINERT Fiber Optics).

WEINERT Industries’ story is built on decades of innovation. Our journey began as part of larger organizations where our teams honed their craft in fiber manufacturing. Key milestones include the development of synthetic quartz (SQ) fused silica capabilities and preform production in the 2000s, which laid the groundwork for today’s high-performance fibers. The company’s true formation came in 2021, when our leadership completed a management buy-out to create an independent WEINERT Group. This pivotal moment allowed us to reintegrate all facets of the fiber optic value chain under one roof, preserving the know-how and talent of our legacy while accelerating strategic growth. Since then, WEINERT Industries has rapidly expanded: we established now operations in Asia to better serve global markets, and we ventured into infrastructure cables by acquiring production assets in South Africa. Each milestone – from our first drawn fiber to our latest informational expansion – reflects a commitment to growth through technology and partnership.
